Paolo Scheggi for Villa Firenze Contemporanea

The Paolo Scheggi Association is pleased to announce that the artist's work
Intersuperficie curva, 1970
is part of the project Contemporary Florence Villa which opens in Washington DC on Thursday, October 19 in the presence of selected members of the American and Italian-American cultural, media and business community.

"This is a formidable cultural diplomacy and growth initiative," said Italian Ambassador Mariangela Zappia, "bringing to the heart of Washington a selection of the best of contemporary Italian art and design from the 1950s to the present. The admiration of our American friends for Italian art and culture is unparalleled. Thanks to Villa Firenze Contemporanea, the vast audience of dignitaries, diplomatic corps, entrepreneurs and representatives of every sector of American and Italian-American society, guests of the residence of the Italian Ambassadors in Washington, will have one more chance to appreciate Italian genius in contemporary art and design."

Villa Firenze Contemporanea, an integrated and cultural promotion initiative named after the Residence of the Italian Ambassadors in Washington, is inspired by the "Quirinale Contemporaneo" projects at the Quirinale Palace and the "Farnesina Collection" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The project was curated by Arch. Prof. Renata Cristina Mazzantini, who selected more than fifty works of art and design from the 1950s to the present, all representative of Italian creativity and elegance, and placed them in the context of Villa Firenze's Tudor-style architecture. The exhibition-installation includes different creative expressions, from figurative to abstract, from conceptual to environmental art, from painting to sculpture, and also includes some 30 objects conceived by Italian designers and produced by Italian companies. All strictly "Made in Italy" and at the same time significant of mutual ties and influences between Italian creators and the United States. The exhibition is illustrated in a catalog with photos by Maestro Massimo Listri and published by Treccani.

Villa Firenze Contemporanea was created with the ambition of highlighting contemporary Italian art and, at the same time, the excellence of Made in Italy design, through a very high-profile showcase for artists and designers as well as for our companies, with the intention of strengthening their role in this important market.

Also part of the project is the restoration of the four mirrors in the Grand Salon of Villa Firenze, carried out by Valore Italia - Botticino School of Restoration in Milan.

Villa Firenze Contemporanea was realized with the contribution of MAECI/DGDP and the support of Generali, Intesa Sanpaolo and Eni.
