WORDS AND PERFORMANCE

Paolo Scheggi, "L'Autospettacolo" (The Self-Spectacle), 1969, microphones, loudspeakers, recorders, posters.

Autospettacolo is an urban and theatrical action realised by Scheggi in the city and in the Municipal Theatre of Caorle during the event Nuovi Materiali Nuove Tecniche (New Materials - New Techniques) from 20 July to 20 August 1969. The action consisted in recording, through special microphones, the noises and sounds of the town, but also of its inhabitants and the artists present, some of whom participated in the action by having other microphones and recorders applied to various points on their bodies. The audio materials collected in this way were then mixed by Franca Sacchi with distortions of electronic music and played in the Municipal Theatre as a non-stop action. The action is completed by the manifesto of L'Autospettacolo. A unique act in time, displayed in various points in the city of Caorle, where the names of the participating artists were declared: Accardi, Alviani, M.
