WORDS AND PERFORMANCE

Paolo Scheggi, "Copia dal vero di Paolo Scheggi" (Copy from life by Paolo Scheggi), 1970, bronze lapidary characters on wooden board covered with black formica, 62 x 63 x 2 cm. Private collection

“The progressive immersion of Scheggi's work into an increasingly felt magical and religious ritual is, as I think, the mark of a more direct and deep analysis of the ontological meaning of life (and of death), of the meaning of the subconscious, and of his need to leave behind the object and move towards a minimal language, as a result of which, as Giuseppe Chiari rightly said, Scheggi became a "conceptual artist"; Scabia has spoken of a front that first perceives the wind and thus awakens "Mnemosyne".
