WORDS AND PERFORMANCE

Paolo Scheggi, "Interfiore" (Interflower), 1968, yellow fluorescent paint on wooden rings and Wood's light, 400 x 400 x 400 cm approx. Private collection.
The installation has been realized by Scheggi over the course of one day for the event Il Teatro delle mostre (The Theatre of Exhibitions) at Plinio De Martiis' Galleria La Tartaruga, one of the first exhibitions in Italy that presented artistic interventions and actions lasting 24 hours in a performative direction. Together with Scheggi, the following artists presented one intervention per day: Angeli, Balestrini, Boetti, Bussotti, Calzolari, Castellani, Ceroli, Ciriacono, Fioroni, Grisi, Icaro, Innocente, Mambor, Marotta, Mauri, Paolini, Parise, Prini, Soro, Tacchi.
“At the level of research, this plastic experimentation with the theatre space/setting is connected to and expands certain possibilities already explored in the ‘plastic interchambers’… I am deeply interested in theatrical space, since I consider it capable of offering the elements for one of the most complete plastic discourses possible. Of course, the condition is that one methodologically create an ‘interdisciplinary’ work community, aimed at the constant verification of the reciprocal results, so as to obtain real linguistic unity”.
